Mikel Brown II is an associate attorney at McCoy Leavitt Laskey, LLC. Mikel attended Prairie View A & M University for undergraduate studies, earning cum laude honors, and his Bachelor of Business Administration in Marketing. In May 2023, he then graduated cum laude with his Juris Doctor from Thurgood Marshall School of Law (TMSL) at Texas Southern University in Houston, TX. Mikel was licensed by the State of Bar of Texas in October 2023.

While in law school, Mikel served as a fellow for the Lexis Nexis Rule of Law Foundation. During this fellowship he published an article for Lexis Nexis; The School to Prison Pipeline: Addressing the adverse effects of discriminatory school discipline practices and the negative implications on minorities in the legal field. Through this fellowship, he tackled race bias and discrimination in our Nation’s public school and justice systems. He pioneered Lexis Nexis’s first School Based Law Enforcement Toolkit, to support attorneys and advocates in establishing safe and supportive school environments.

Mikel sharpened his advocacy and litigation skills by participating in individual student advocacy competitions and as an advocate on the TMSL National Mock Trial Team. Additionally, he represented real clients as a student attorney by participating in both Title IX and Criminal Law clinics. Because of his advocacy skills and dedication, Mikel was admitted into the TMSL Order of Barristers, a prestigious courtroom-advocacy honor society.

In his free time, Mikel enjoys fine dining and finding trendy locations to spend time with family and friends. He also enjoys destination traveling and staying fit with hiking and exercise.
