Nicholas W. Siewert

Nick focuses his practice on defending property owners, contractors, product manufacturers, and suppliers in fire and explosion litigation, premise liability, construction defect, and product liability litigation. Nick is a certified Fire and Explosion Investigator by the National Association of Fire Investigators and the International Association of Arson Investigators, certifications held by only a handful of attorneys in the United States.

Nick has published articles and lectured on fire and explosion, product liability, and staged losses, including:

• Will Insurance Pay When Others Intentionally Play Property ‘Games’? An examination of intentional acts exclusions based upon subjective verse objective standards.
• Is Water the New Face of Arson? The rise of staged water losses and the rise of smokeless arson.

• Lithium-ion Batteries Challenge Investigators to Determine Causation in Fire Claims. The inherent challenges of making cause determinations in fire involving lithium-ion batteries.

Nick received a Bachelor of Arts in History from Wayne State University, before receiving his J.D. from the University Of Detroit Mercy School Of Law. He worked in the building trades for almost a decade before attending law school. Nick also co-authored several articles published in the American Journal of Emergency Medicine regarding the treatment of neurological conditions and injuries in pre-hospital settings. In his free time, Nick restores antique woodworking tools and fire protection equipment.
